Optimism, positivity, confidence &#8211; they\u2019re all good. However, in reality, the fear of<strong>\u00a0being wrong<\/strong>\u00a0and\/or\u00a0<strong>not having every answer<\/strong>\u00a0as well as\u00a0<strong>keeping something quiet that is personal<\/strong>\u00a0are significant issues effecting many business leaders.<\/p>\n<p>Envision working at a company and going to the boss, the leader, asking a question and then seeing that he\/she does not have the answer. Even worse, if the entrepreneur says \u201csomething is wrong\u201d or \u201cI don\u2019t know\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Hearing that might make you hesitate about your job security, your future, the company\u2019s future\u2026. right?<\/p>\n<p>Well, <strong>that\u2019s an entrepreneur\u2019s fear:\u00a0losing the confidence of employees, of key team members<\/strong>. So, instead, many entrepreneurs give answers, <em>every time,<\/em> and often don\u2019t share the\u00a0whole truth, particularly about themselves.<\/p>\n<p>Now, mind you, many are type A aggressive leaders and capable of decisions on the fly; however, there are times when these sentences are perfectly acceptable:<\/p>\n<h2>\u201cI don\u2019t know. What is your opinion?\u201d<\/h2>\n<h2>\u201cI\u2019d like to share something with you.&#8221;<\/h2>\n<p>A decision always lies with the leader. And, the team member is included in the decision process. The candour of the leader will actually attract the employees rather than deter them.<\/p>\n<p>I learned many years ago that being open with life situations had very positive effects on our team, too. I used to be very quiet about my personal life. I still don\u2019t wear my woes on my sleeve, but I do share the reasons why my attention or productivity are impacted.<\/p>\n<p>I remember the relief when I finally told my management team:<\/p>\n<h3><strong>I was going through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/divorcedentrepreneurs\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #0066cc;\">divorce<\/span><\/a><\/strong>.<\/h3>\n<p>The team was very supportive. I was concerned about being judged; instead, they took on more so that I had the space to do the legal side of the divorce and to figure out <strong>how to be a single dad<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>When I put my pride aside and opened up, we became a better team.<\/h2>\n<p>Lead by example. Don\u2019t carry all the weight.
